The idea for Analog Motion Graphics came as part of a process KS12 Creative Studio used to produce a music video for Michael Fakesch. Using original video material we shot off the screens of our vintage microfiche readers combined with select pictures from our archives, we created a unique visualization of the song Complicated.

The basic premise of Analog Motion Graphics is analog motion, which is to say, that graphics produced using these techniques can use all manner of digital and analog tools provided that the onscreen motion is achieved by hand or using movements made with the body. The principle concern is making the practice of motion graphics a more physical activity, thereby enhancing the emotional connection of the graphic artist with their work by incorporating gestural movement into the process.

Alongside the ambition of creating more human, visceral motion is the secondary value of creating mysterious images. Often the combination of analog motion with digital compositing produces images which obscure the processes by which they are made, lending an edge to the content in a world in which the prevalence of digital motion graphics software makes for an increasingly predictable motion graphics landscape.

I hope you enjoy what you find on this site and would welcome you to send me any examples of Analog Motion Graphics you think would be worthy additions to the blog.
